The Internet Marketer’s Mindset By michaelbrown | April 16, 2008

Numerous people want to go into the world of internet marketing. Many come in and many are spit right back out. It’s easy to see why people want in, money. However, if money is all you’re after then you may find yourself quickly into the 95% of other failed internet marketers.

The reason being that while snagging easy money is a lofty goal it simply becomes to complex or rather boring for many. Other IM dream killing factors include lack of motivation, confusion, lack of time and the ever crippling icy death grip of lack of patience. All of those things can lead down the broken path and often misguided path of internet marketing.

So if you currently are or are considering going into the internet marketing you must meet the following traits in some way or another.

#1. You must be self motivated. No body is going to do it for you and often times nobody cares if you succeed or not. You have to be able to supply your own motivation. The good news is that this can be whatever motivates you. For me, I was always success driven. I only wanted to succeed in whatever I put my mind to.

#2. Open to new Ideas. You must be willing to try and learn new things. When I first started internet marketing I had never even built a web site before. In order for my success to occur I had to learn a new set of skills to continue to grow in my ability with them. You may be in this boat now. So learn the new skills you need and start building your success from the ground up.

#3. Willing to Fail. Perhaps the scariest topic of all is the realization that you may fail. However, failure in this instance is an option. My first 2 websites were pointless and lacked goals and value - they failed. However, after I failed I got back up and dusted myself and failed again. At this point I could have given up and walked away but I didn’t a tried again and learned from my previous mistakes. Eventually it all just fell into place and I’m where I am at today. I welcome failures in all that I do now because I grow stronger each time and build myself much bigger down the road. Plus, if I wouldn’t have failed so many times I may not have written some of the e-books and reports I have now. The same reports that have helped many achieve success. As long as you’re willing to right the mistakes later, failing isn’t a bad thing.

#4. Ignore popular belief. Most people outside of already successful marketers believe making money online is a joke and not even possible outside “the inner circle”. If that were actually true I wouldn’t be here. Other popular belief rises from time to time within the internet marketing industry. You may see examples of this come up often for instance phrases like “Content is King” and that “SEO isn’t important anymore”. Often times the author of such phrases may be on the right track but may not have tested their own theories enough. Stick to your guns and start earning your living. Meanwhile a message to marketers who have been around for awhile, the basics of SEO are always important and I can’t imagine an internet without them.

#5. You MUST put in the time. I see this everyday, someone simply looking for a “get rich quick scheme”. While I am sure it’s possible for one to work, it’s highly unlikely. You must be willing to work to get to where you want to be. Whether, you are into building niche websites, creating your own products or affiliate marketing putting in the time and effort to succeed holds true for each. I do recommend things that are going to help save time but not until you understand it first. Take website building for example. There are many places to outsource having your own website built but if you don’t understand the mechanics of it, it’ll never benefit you later on.

Furthermore, on the topic of putting in the time I have a saying that I love, “I’ll sleep when I’m dead”. To me I don’t want to rest and be 100% content until I have achieved everything I hope to achieve in my marketing exploits. Does that mean ignore my family, friends and never spend time off the computer and away from marketing?

Absolutely not, but to achieve a higher success you must be focused on your goals and accomplish them. Ever day I make a list of the most important things I need to get accomplished. By the end of my day of work they must be done or I’m finishing them before I sleep. Doesn’t sound like the life of an internet marketer? It probably doesn’t sound like the life of a internet marketer because we see everyday the sales pitches that advises you that lazy internet marketers are making fortunes.

Replace the word “lazy” with “SMART” and you’ll surely follow the right path to success. If ever the phrase “work smarter” not “harder” should come in this is the time. Plan your day, goals, priorities and achieve them in the order that is most important to you.

I could literally write a book on The Mindset of a Successful Internet Marketer and I probably will at some point. Keep these things in mind while you are starting a new project or working on your first one. Your success depends upon it.

5 Internet Marketing Mindsets Required for Online Business Success by: Donna Gunter

Many independent service professionals nonchalantly enter the Internet marketing game by throwing together a half-baked website without any plan and mistakenly believe that visitors will find them. Initially, my online business grew from word-of-mouth referrals from other clients rather than from any true Internet marketing. My website simply served as an online brochure detailing my services and my rates for several years.

Over time, I became tired of trading time for money. Upon gaining some time and experience in business, the independent service professional has a rude awakening that there are only so many hours in the day and consequently that limits the number of clients that can be served.

Despite all the useful information I'd absorbed over the years about expanding my business reach through the development of products that I could sell on my website, I just didn't want to devote the time necessary to create multiple streams of income for my business. However, as I began to see friends and colleagues do this successfully in their businesses, the light bulb finally went off, and I realized that this was my next step, as well. So, I bit the bullet and began to try some of the strategies and began to get quick results from what I had implemented.

In my own professional development as an Internet marketer, as well as from work with clients over the years, I've come to realize that there are 5 Internet Marketing Mindsets that must be in place for someone to be successful online:

1. Create content that can be re-purposed. The goals here is to create your content once and find multiple ways to use it or multiple ways of delivery. So, for example, if you have an Inspiration Line phone service in which you record an inspiring thought each day for your clients, you can record these calls and have them serve as a publicity tool by distributing them as a podcast. This will help drive traffic to your site and bring people into your marketing funnel. When you've accumulated enough recordings, you then sell a subscription membership so that the buyer receives a new inspiring thought each day via email or a direct-to-desktop service. Over time, you can categorize recordings by topic and then combine the recordings into multiple motivational CDs or .mp3 downloads and make them available for sale online. When you've been doing this for a year, perhaps you then parlay the recordings into a book or an inspirational card deck. Sometimes it helps to start with the end in mind.

2. Record everything that you do. Whether you're doing live events, radio or TV interviews, teleclasses, webinars, etc., it pays to record and have a permanent record of everything that you do. Having a digital video recording of yourself in a one-day live event can be packaged into a "home study" course. Teleclasses with transcripts can be resold individually or packaged together for a bigger product. Radio or TV interviews can be placed on your website to enhance your credibility and convince a meeting planner to pay you big bucks to come and provide a keynote speech. Open your mind to the possibilities for re-purposing your recordings.

3. Get yourself and your customers into a sales mentality. Many of my clients simply like to have their products sit obscurely for sale on their websites and do nothing to make their list members or website visitors aware of what they have for sale for fear of offending their visitors or subscribers. If someone is going to be offended because you're trying to sell to them, then just let them go. You don't need a list of tire-kickers who want to sponge all the free info that they can from you and never buy anything -- you'll never be able to stay in business that way.

I have to chuckle when I do a promotion and get an email from someone on the list who chastises me for "daring" to sell to them and notes that they much prefer to "decide" when they want to buy something from me and then they threaten to leave the list. I just respond that I'm sorry that they feel that way, but unfortunately I'm not a trust-fund baby, and that my hard-earned information has the same value as any info that they might get from their car mechanic, doctor, attorney, or accountant, and I've never seen any of those professionals give away what they know.

Creating a sales mentality means that you need to acknowledge that you're in business to make money through selling and that your customers need to become accustomed to having you sell and seeing things for sale all over your websites. This is no different than the trait needed for success if you were to own a brick-and-mortar retail establishment. You can still provide free and valuable information to your visitors, but reserve the right to take that info, create a unique packaging and title for pieces of info on the same topic, and put it up for sale.

4. Acknowledge that people will pay more for convenience and instant delivery online. Many times, as I'm trying to help a client determine the price for a product, they' object to the price I suggest because they compare it to a physical product that can be purchased in the local bookstore or online bookstore for less. The "buy it now and give it to me instantly" mentality that is prevalent among online shoppers dictates that you can charge a higher price for an electronic product than a physical product because the shopper can fulfill his/her need for instant gratification and receive the electronic product in mere seconds. Wouldn't you rather do that instead of having to get in the car to make a trip across town to buy the product or waiting a few days for the delivery of a physical product from an online store?

And, people will pay for convenience. I recently spoke with a client about selling her content that was ready available in various locations all over the Internet. She was concerned that no one would pay for the product since it was currently available online at no cost if someone were to look hard enough. I told her that many of her customers didn't know it was available online, and even if they did, they would have to invest a great deal of their free time to gather all the info in one place. Few of us have that luxury of time today. For most of us, if it's easy and convenient and will save us some time, we'll buy it.

5. Plan your business growth around your marketing funnel. Independent service professionals shouldn't live on the sale of their services alone. Trust me, at some point in your business, you won't want to do that any longer. You need to create a marketing funnel of your products and services that range in price from free to very expensive and base your marketing strategy around that funnel. Your online business success will depend upon people being able to "sample" your expertise before deciding to purchase your service.

Remember that it takes 7-10 "touches" before a prospect will turn into a customer. Give them several ways to experience your expertise, all the way from free to expensive, with any number of price points and options in between. Keep your marketing funnel in mind in all that you do and strategize how every new activity, whether that's creating a new product, writing another article, offering a new service, or being a guest on a radio show fits into your marketing funnel.

By adopting these 5 Internet Marketing Mindsets into your daily marketing mantra, you'll be well on your way to positioning your online business for many years of success!

The 9 Mindset Secrets that Ensure Business Success by: Robert Greenshields

If you want to be among the handful of businesses that are really successful, you need a 'marketing mindset'.

Following these nine principles will change the way you think about your business and your attitude toward promoting it to others.

1. Vision and purpose: With the marketing mindset, you are 'strategic', so you have a clear 'vision' for where your business is going and you can easily identify opportunities that help get you there. 'Opportunists' change direction every time they see a new idea. You need a vision that's written, specific and has a series of milestones to monitor progress.

2. Focus: You stand a better chance of success by choosing a targeted niche than in a larger, broad field. A good niche is small enough to dominate and large enough to be highly profitable. It means being able to identify exactly who your customers are and what they have in common.

3. 'Reason why': Prospective customers need to know why they should choose you over your competition. You need to know the reasons and be able to express them in one or two sentences. This is your positioning and can break through the clutter in the most saturated market. You don't just want to exist in your niche; your positioning makes you the company of choice!

4. Marketing plan: A marketing plan should cover everything you do to promote your business. It needs to be written and measurable, using the most appropriate marketing tools. But it should also be simple - two pages are probably enough.

5. Profitable customer relationships: It's easier and cheaper to sell to existing customers than to find new ones. So put at least as much effort into keeping in touch with existing customers as attracting new ones. Show clients that you are looking after their interests by building up trust through regular, helpful contact.

6. Partnership: Successful businesses cooperate with others for mutual benefit. These might even be businesses that other people would see as competitors. Businesses which might make good partners are those which your customers see before or after seeing you.

7. Persuasion and influence: The skill of persuasive communication is crucial to business success. Everybody is different and you must tailor your marketing accordingly. To communicate convincingly, you need to focus on one clear message, and then structure your support message properly. If you want people to follow your advice, position yourself as an expert by speaking and writing articles. And set your prices high so that people recognize that as your value.

8. Productivity: The degree to which you get best use of your time determines your success. Work out the real value to you of an hour then ask: "Can I pay someone else significantly less to do this?" Make full use of automation and outsourcing to use your time more effectively.

9. Action: Failing to take action is one of the biggest roadblocks to business success. Avoid procrastination - putting off tasks you need to do - and perfectionism - waiting until something is 100% right.

To improve your rating for these principles, set a goal for the improvements you need. Develop a plan and take action on it right away. As you change your mindset, you'll quickly see your business results, your daily schedule and your lifestyle being transformed as well.

7 Guaranteed Ways To Increase Your Website Traffic by: Phill Johnson

Internet businesses can be very profitable, tapping the vast resource that is the World Wide Web. But it is not as simple as simply setting up a website or an online shop and watching the money come in! The importance of generating traffic for your website cannot be stressed enough, and almost all articles you will read about online success will agree.

Traffic generation should be planned along with the plan for the website itself, and should start as soon, or even before, the website itself is published online. The following are some surefire ways to increase your website traffic.

1) Invest in good advertisement with the popular search engines.

Google and Yahoo are the top two search engines on the Internet, and these two sites draw huge amounts of traffic. They also offer great advertising schemes, Google with its Adwords and Yahoo with Overture. A lot of websites feature these advertising schemes, and you can be assured that your ad will be displayed quite widely, and will get readership.

Of course, advertising with Google or Yahoo will not come free of charge. If you have the money to spare, and feel that better advertising will benefit your online business, then by all means deal with the best and sign up with Google Adwords or Yahoo Overture.

2) Trade links with other sites and online shops.

Link trades or link exchanges are when two websites agree to feature hyperlinks to each other?s websites on their respective websites. These links can usually be found in a list, or sometimes on a separate page on the website. Link exchanges can benefit both parties, as the traffic to each can then ?cross over? to the other website.

These are also free, requiring only an agreement between the two parties. This means that you can work on creating a lot of link exchanges (thus drawing more traffic) without having to spend a penny!

3) Market virally.

Viral marketing is a new form of marketing that originated on the Internet. Viral marketing is different from conventional forms of advertising by being undercover, as it were. Usually, creative videos or games, or interesting articles, are spread on the Internet through blogs and other sites. The company?s name is actually attached to these viral pieces (even just a logo and tagline at the end of the video, or on one corner of the game window).

Viral marketing is low-cost, but depends heavily on the creativity and attractiveness of the viral pieces you use to market your company.

4) Determine and use the proper search keywords and keyword phrases for your site.

Search engines are essential tools for anyone on the Internet, as they allow easy access to desired information or services. Online businesses should take care to make their websites search engine friendly ? that is, easily accessible by these search engines. The process of improving a website with regard to search engines is called search engine optimization. This usually consists of creating new content for the website which includes the specific keywords and keyword phrases associated with the business of your company.

5) Create articles to spread awareness and increase interest in your site.

Similar to the previous tip, you can write articles about subjects related to your company?s field. For instance, a car dealership can create articles about car sales or car parts. These articles can be put up on the company website itself, or submitted to other sites that deal with the same subjects as the company.

6) Participate in forums and create your own online communities.

Forums are great ways to advertise your site. If more and more people become convinced that your company provides quality service, then you can gain an online following. Take advantage of this and try to lead it to form a full-blown online community. This community will not only maintain your current market, but also attract new customers.

7) Finally, make newsletters available.

Newsletters are another way of increasing awareness of and interest in your company. Just be sure that you can provide good information and quality content, and people will subscribe to your newsletter and help spread the word about your company.

Tips for Increasing Your Website Traffic by: Carol Stack

Website Traffic Is The Key To Success

Most online publishers know that website traffic is the amount of visitors your website receives. The best gauge to determine how well you are doing regarding traffic is unique visitors. Generating those unique visitors is the single biggest challenge faced by most webmasters.

You have a wonderful website and attractive content but your website traffic is still low. Internet marketers know that with little or no traffic there is little or no income. Therefore it is imperative that you increase your website traffic to ensure a more successful business.

So now that we have discussed why website traffic is so important, how in the world do you get that traffic and keep it coming? How do you generate higher website traffic is a question that is asked by hundreds of thousands of internet marketers around the world. The basic answer is: Building website traffic is simply marketing your website so that it can market for you. But how does one market their website?

You need to use a combination of methods. You cannot focus on just one method and expect to get significant amounts of traffic. Also, keep in mind that building traffic to your site is a process and not a one-time event. It is something that requires regular effort.

All Website Traffic is Not Created Equal – You Need Targeted Traffic

Website traffic is one thing, but targeted traffic is everything. The easiest way that I have found to increase targeted website traffic is to focus each website page or blog post on a specific niche in the market. An excellent way is to ask a "how to" question and write about your solution.

How to Get Traffic

One way to get traffic is by writing articles for your niche market and submitting them to article directories and ezine editors.

Another vital strategy for increasing your site traffic is to use inbound links to bring in traffic from other sites. Make it a priority to spend time every day increasing the amount of incoming links to your site. Social bookmarking is a great method to increase links exponentially with little effort.

If you can get a regular routine of writing articles, posting them to your site, and submitting them to social bookmarking sites, that is a powerful combination to increase your traffic.

A third very powerful tool that can dramatically increase your website traffic is a viral ebook or report. There have been several examples of this recently with free reports by Rich Schefren and Mike Filsaime "The Manifesto" and "The Death of Internet Marketing." Another report that started a buzz was "The Death of Adsense" by Scot Boulch.

Discussion boards, or forums, are another great way to increase traffic. If you are in a niche where people like to talk and discuss the topic, this can be a great way to increase traffic. Post comments around the web that you are starting a forum on such-and-such a topic and they will come.

Pay-per-click, such as Google AdWords, is an excellent way to generate traffic. But be careful. It's very easy to end up spending thousands of dollars for traffic that doesn't generate any revenue unless you know exactly how to do it. Perry Marshall is Mr. AdWords, the one that everyone goes to for learning AdWords. Purchasing his ebook for a few dollars will end up saving you big bucks if you want to use PPC.

When all is said and done, every internet marketer depends on website traffic to generate business. With a few basic tools such as article syndication, social bookmarking, linking and PPC, and a site that gives viewers what they are looking for, your traffic will increase every month.

Affiliate Marketing Strategies In Today's World by: Tabitha Palmer

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate Marketing is an agreement between a merchant and a website owner. Both the merchant and the affiliate enjoy some benefits in affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing programs are described as a win-win situation for both the merchant and the affiliate because of the pay-for-performance scheme. Affiliate marketing will give the product or service the maximum exposure that it may not get with other traditional advertising techniques.

Researching affiliate versus traditional marketing ideas and opportunities can help you start a new business or grow the home based business you already have. By reading this article you have taken the first step towards financial freedom. Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest and fastest ways to make a profit online while at home.

Now that you know what affiliate marketing is, let’s discuss some important ways you need to know in order to be successful at your home business.

First you need to know that your main focus in affiliate online marketing will be on promoting the product of the merchant. Your affiliate marketing system can be duplicated and replicated in any niche’ market, as long as there are products with affiliate programs in that market niche. This leaves the field of affiliate marketing open to everyone who has a desire to become their own boss. Fortunately, it does not take hundreds of thousands of dollars to be making money with affiliate marketing. In most cases you can start for Free!

The most important thing about being an affiliate is you do not have to worry about inventory, order processing, or product shipping. All the same, the best benefit of being an affiliate marketer is the opportunity to increase your income; and you can make a profit even if affiliate marketing is only a sideline business. Most affiliate marketers today make a very lucrative income as they know how to promote their companies in the correct way.

In fact, this great publicity, writing articles, is the first way I want to share with you to promote your business and is often free. You can get freelancers to do this for you if writing is just NOT your thing. This is very inexpensive at places like Elance.com and my personal favorite Team-Shuman.com You can also submit articles to article directories to generate free traffic and backlinks to your site. You can find hundreds of article directories by doing a search online for that keyword. Article marketing is one of the best free online marketing strategies to drive targeted traffic to your website and increase your sales.

The forums are also free and even small affiliates can have a big voice at places like that, which is supported by the anonymity that is provided by those platforms. Do a search on Home based business forums and find tons of them to join and learn the business and secrets shared by those doing this for a living. This is the best ’on the job training’ you can get.

Some secret weapons for succeeding at your own Home Business are as follows :

1)You MUST optimize a business website for a great start. To optimize your website using this free traffic generation technique, make sure you:

2) Build your website around your chosen keywords;

3) Write and distribute quality and unique content (articles, blogs, online journals) around your chosen keywords;

5) Submit your site to website and search engine submission directories.

Search Engine Optimization, SEO is a free and very effective marketing technique used by affiliate marketers who are succeeding in the Home Based Business Era. You can find tutorials in many places on the internet by searching for keyword SEO.

There are a few good fully automated traffic-generation systems that can send thousands of targeted prospects to your website, every single day, for FREE. If you are a newbie affiliate internet marketer, when creating your traffic strategy you should choose three (3) free traffic methods and one (1) paid traffic method to implement and focus on. Although if you don’t have the extra money to put into this right now it will be fine to use the free ones until you start getting some paychecks in.

There are many free affiliate marketing ideas, tips and secrets the pros use available online. I hope this article has helped you to make an informed decision on whether or not to start your home business based on being an affiliate vs. traditional marketing. This type of business is not only easier, but as I mentioned earlier you do not have to worry about inventory, order processing, and product shipping, only getting your links out there in the online world.

If you desire residual and passive income to be ongoing for your future then these practices are some of the first things you need to do to be successful at your new affiliate marketing business. A word to the wise, any income you generate from your business for the first few months should be turned around and put back into the advertising of your website. This will benefit you greatly in the end.

I honestly believe that anyone who is willing to put the effort and time in, will be able to achieve Complete Financial Freedom upon starting their own Home Based Business in Affiliate Marketing.
